Guide to Sanseveria Laurentii

Sanseveria Laurentii - The Sanseveria Laurentii is a popular cultivar taken from the Sanseveria Trifasciata Plant. These plants are native to tropical West Africa and are evergreen herbaceous perennial plants forming dense stands. It is most commonly known as mother-in-laws tongue because of the shape and sharpness of the leaves.

Sometimes it is called the snake plant due to the hissing sound it makes when releasing a build up of CO2 from its stems when the release valve is opened. As with other members of its genus the Sansevieria Trifasciata yields bowstring hemp which, as the name suggests, was a very strong plant fibre used to make bowstrings.

It is very popular as a houseplant as it is tolerant to low light levels and irregular watering. In fact overwatering can lead to it rotting. One of its most useful features is the ability to filter certain poisonous substances from the air which adds to its appeal as an indoor or office plant.
