Philodendron Scandens

Philodendron is thought to be the largest genus of flowering plants belonging to the Araceae family. Many species of Phildendron still remain unknown but those that have been studied now take their place as ornamental indoor trees or large office plants.

Native to the tropical Americas and West Indies the Philodendron gets its name from the Greek words for ‘love’ (philo) and ‘tree’ (Dendron). Typically found in the tropical forests and humid areas of their native homes, many have noted the Philodendron as a key player in the ecosystems they are found in due to their large numbers.

The Philodendron Scandens, Sweetheart Plant or Heart-Leaf Philodendron as it is sometimes known is a very simple and elegant evergreen plant and perhaps one of the easiest and popular Philodendron’s grown today. Often used indoors due to its tolerance of darker draughty areas, the Philodendrons Scandens heart shaped leaves are dense and waxy and dark green in colour.
