Guide to Howea Forsteriana

Howea Forsteriana - The Howea Forsteriana or Kentia Palm is a wonderfully elegant palm that is hugely popular indoors. With minimal maintenance and attention required the ‘Kentia Palm’ has earnt its place amongst the office plant elite.

Seen commonly in offices and commercial settings across Europe the Howea Forsteriana is an elegant palm with long arching stem, the Howea Forsteriana is a slow growing palm that will acclimatise to low light conditions often found in indoor climates.

Typically used to create a focal point in any planted office display the Kentia Palm’s popularity is said to date back to the Victorian times. Native to ‘Lord Howes Island’ which lies to the east of Australia the Howea Forsteriana, or Kentia Palm as it is commonly referred to today is amongst one of the most common plants used indoors by interior plantscapers.

Plant maintenance

In their native habitat Howea Forsteriana’s can reach anything up to 60 feet high but commonly those grown for indoor use range from large office plants of around 170cm (including container height) to small indoor trees of around 195cm.
