Guide to Cycas Revoluta (Sago Palm)
The Cycas Revoluta or Sago Palm as it is affectionately called has been around for centuries and many would argue that these ancient palm trees once provided a tasty snack for the likes of Brontosaurus and Triceratops. Native to Southern Japan and Korea, the Cycas Revoluta despite being called the Sago Palm by many, actually belongs to the Cycad family and is not a palm at all.
Having been introduced to indoor climates during the Victorian times, the Cycas Revoluta has quickly become one of the most popular indoor trees to date thanks to its undemanding nature. Typically characterised by their stout trunk and large crown on compound leaves Cycads are evergreen plants found across subtropical and tropical parts of the world. A very sturdy species some Cycads are known to survive in harsh semi-desert environments with very little shade.

Over the years Cycads and in particular the Cycas Revoluta has become very popular with horticulturists and is very common in indoor displays. All Cycads are very striking plants and the Revoluta is no exception. With shiny dark green leaves that grow in a symmetrical formation along a thick craggy trunk, the Revoluta can grow up to 20 feet tall in its native habitat (although plants this tall are likely to be nearly 100 years old).

The Cyca Revoluta available here at indoor trees is a very popular choice with individuals looking for large office plants either individually or as part of a planted office display. With all the characteristics of its 200 million year old relatives this ‘living fossil’ is a great addition to any space. The whorled feathery leaves and rugged trunk help to add a touch of iconic history to a planted display whilst teaming it with a contemporary container can help to keep things fresh!
